Start with the drain type and safety
"Pool drain cleaning" can mean a blocked suction line, debris around a skimmer, or a deck drain that is not carrying rainwater away. These are different problems. Before booking work, describe where the water or blockage is and what has changed in the pool's circulation.
Do not remove an underwater drain cover or try to clear a suction opening by hand. Keep swimmers out if a cover is loose, broken or missing. The CPSC's Pool Safely guidance explains the entrapment hazard and why swimmers should stay away from drains and suction outlets.
Main drains, skimmers and deck drains are different
Underwater suction outlets and skimmers are part of the pool's circulation system. Deck drains carry water away from the surrounding deck. Clearing one does not necessarily solve a problem in the other.
When requesting help, identify the location: a skimmer opening, an underwater cover, plumbing at the equipment pad, or a channel in the deck. A photo taken safely from the deck is useful. Do not enter the water to inspect a suspect suction outlet.
Reduced flow needs a diagnosis
A change in flow does not prove there is a drain-line blockage. Tell the technician whether the pump starts, whether you see a leak or air bubbles, what the filter gauge shows, and when the filter was last cleaned. These details help distinguish an equipment problem from work on a drain or line.
If the assessment identifies a pump fault, pool pump repair addresses that equipment. Damaged filter elements or components need pool filter repair, while collected debris may call for a separately quoted filter cleaning.
Leave line isolation, pressure testing and blockage removal to a qualified professional. Do not experiment with valve positions while the pump is running or connect compressed air to the plumbing.
How to clean accessible debris from a pool deck drain
These steps apply to a surface-water channel in the deck, not a pool suction outlet or underwater drain cover.
- Clear the surface. Sweep leaves and loose dirt away from the grate. Collect the debris rather than pushing it into the channel.
- Identify the access design. Find the product name and its maintenance instructions. Some channels have removable grates; others do not. For example, Stegmeier's Frontier Deck Drain Pro has snap-out top caps. That does not mean an unidentified narrow deck drain can be pried open.
- Use only the intended opening. If your drain has a removable top, follow its instructions and remove reachable leaves and sediment from the channel. - Replace the top securely. Keep people away from an open channel while working. If the grate is damaged or will not seat properly, keep the area clear and arrange repair.
Visible surface debris is different from a blockage farther down the drainage system. If water still collects after accessible debris is removed, note where it stands and where the outlet leads, if visible. Give the drain model and those observations to a drainage contractor. Do not force a hose, drain bladder or compressed air into an unknown line.

Drain cleaning is not a pool drain and refill
Clearing a circulation line and replacing pool water solve different problems. If the concern is the water itself, Cabana can assess whether a pool drain and restart is appropriate. That service does not clear a blocked suction line or deck drain.
Water condition, the pool and the property need to be assessed before a drain is recommended. Do not empty the pool just because the water is cloudy or flow has slowed.
What determines the cost?
There is no useful single price for all of these jobs. The diagnosis, location of the problem, access, parts and required work determine the quote. A filter clean, pump repair and buried-line repair should not be treated as interchangeable services.
