Filter repair typically runs between $100 and $450. Replacing a cracked lateral in a sand filter or a torn DE grid is on the lower end. Replacing a manifold or multiport valve runs toward the higher end. We provide an estimate after diagnosis.
If cleaning the filter brings your pressure back to the normal baseline and water clarity improves, the filter is working and just needed cleaning. If pressure stays high even after a thorough cleaning, or if dirt returns to the pool through the returns, there is a component failure that requires repair.
In DE filters, the most common failures are torn or split grids and cracked manifolds. In cartridge filters, failed o-rings on the housing and damaged cartridge end caps are common. In sand filters, cracked laterals allow sand to return to the pool. Multiport valves on any filter type also develop seal failures over time.

If the filter was just cleaned and water is still cloudy, the most likely causes are a torn grid or cracked manifold routing water around the media, a failed valve allowing dirty water to bypass filtration, or a filter that is simply undersized for your pool volume. We diagnose the specific cause before recommending a repair.
Diatomaceous earth is the fine white powder added to DE filters that coats the grids and does the actual filtration work. After backwashing, most of the DE is flushed out and must be replaced to restore full filtration capability. We add the correct amount of fresh DE after every backwash or full cleaning.
