Repair options depend on the exact light. For example, the Pentair IntelliBrite Architectural Series manual allows replacement of LED boards in its pool lights but states that its spa-light LED boards cannot be replaced. That distinction is specific to that product family, not a rule for every LED light. It explains why the model and condition matter before choosing between a repair and a complete assembly.
The niche, power supply, and controls matter
The niche is the housing in the pool wall that holds a wet-niche light. Matching its appearance or diameter is not enough to select a replacement. The IntelliBrite Architectural Series manual, for example, restricts those fixtures to Pentair niches and specifies electrical and control requirements. Your proposed fixture needs to be checked against its own installation instructions. If several lights share a controller, ask whether the proposed change will preserve the lighting behavior you want.
Separate the fixture choice from the installation work
Ask for the selected fixture and installation labor to be identified separately. Existing wiring, conduit, access, or other site conditions may need work beyond the light itself; the scope should say what is included. Pool-light work belongs with a qualified professional, not a bulb-change experiment in the water. You do not need to remove a fixture to request a quote.
